Glenn Umberger
Jr. Vice Commander - Army

Glenn R. Umberger Jr. was elected Junior Vice Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign

Wars of the U.S. on Aug. 13, 2025, at the 126th VFW National Convention in Columbus, Ohio.
 
 
He served in the United States Army from 1985 to 2018, earning his VFW eligibility serving in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In recognition of his service, he received two Meritorious Service Medals, 10 Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, two
National Defense Service Medals, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with gold hourglass and "M” device, Saudi Arabian Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait, and the Kuwait Medal for the Liberation
of Kuwait, among several other awards and citations.
 
 
Glenn joined the VFW in 1993 at Post 23 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, later transferring to Post 7155 in Trappe, Pennsylvania, where he maintains his Gold Legacy Life membership. He has served in elected and appointed positions at the Post, District and Department levels, culminating with his
election as the VFW Department of Pennsylvania Commander from 2015 to 2016. On the
national level, he has served as National Deputy Chief of Staff and National Aide-de-Camp,
and has served on several committees, to include the National Veterans and Military Support
Committee, National Bylaws and Manual of Procedure Committee, and by most recently serving
on the National Council of Administration.
 
 
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice at Shippensburg University. He
retired after 34 years working for the Federal Civil Service with the Department of the Army.
 
 
Glenn is a member of the American Legion, a life member of the Military Order of the Cootie, a
Centennial life member of the VFW National Home, life member of the Association of the
United States Army and is a benefactor life member of the National Rifle Association.
 
He resides in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania.
