Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon: "Black April" Remembrance

On April 30, 2025, the community is invited to attend a special event marking the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, a pivotal moment in history that ended the Vietnam War and forever shaped the lives of millions.

On April 30, 1975, Communist forces captured Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam, leading to the fall of the Republic of Vietnam. For many, this day is remembered as the conclusion of a long and painful war. For others, it marks the beginning of immense suffering under harsh communist rule or the desperate search for freedom abroad. Countless South Vietnamese fled their homeland, risking their lives in search of safety. Many found refuge in the United States and other nations, helping to build the vibrant Vietnamese communities we know today.

Among Vietnamese refugees, April 30th is solemnly observed as "Black April," a day of remembrance for the lives lost and the freedoms sacrificed. For American veterans and their allies, it is also a time to reflect on the bravery, service, and enduring bonds formed during the Vietnam War.

The 50th Anniversary event will feature a U.S. Army Color Guard, national anthems, guest speakers, and ceremonial reflections to honor both the American and South Vietnamese soldiers and civilians who were part of this history.
