Public Servant Recognition
The VFW Public Servant Awards recognize exceptional individuals whose service demonstrates outstanding commitment to protecting and serving their communities.
VFW Posts may nominate qualified public servants in the award categories listed below. Completed Post nominations are forwarded through the District for Department-level consideration.
Award Categories
Firefighter
Recognition for outstanding service in fire protection and emergency response.
Emergency Medical Technician
Recognition for outstanding emergency medical service.
911 Operator
Recognition for outstanding service in emergency communications and public safety dispatch.
Bomb Technician
Recognition for outstanding service in explosive ordnance and public safety response.
Department All-State Submission Routing
Public Servant Awards are part of the VFW Department of Washington All-State Program.
Posts submit completed nominations to their District. Districts must then submit the completed District roll-up and qualifying nominations to the Department Adjutant.
District submissions should not be sent directly to a Department program chairman unless specifically directed by the Department.
Post Prepares and submits the nomination to its District.
District Reviews Post entries and prepares the District submission.
Department District submissions are sent to the Department Adjutant.
National Department-selected entries advance to National Headquarters.
Nomination Information
The nomination package should clearly document the nominee's service and accomplishments.
Include the following information:
- Candidate's name, title, address, and phone number
- Background, accomplishments, and awards
- Justification for the nomination
Complete the official Public Servant Award Post Entry Form and provide all required supporting documentation before forwarding the nomination to the District.
Submission Deadlines
Post to District
January 15
Posts should submit completed nominations to their District by January 15.
District to Department
February 1
Districts must submit the completed District roll-up and qualifying entries to the Department Adjutant by February 1.
Department to National
February 15
The Department reviews District nominations and submits the selected entry in each applicable category to National Headquarters.
