How to Find a Unit
- Contact your local National Guard, Reserve, or active-duty units.
- Review available unit listings through vfw.org/troopsupport.
- Network with nearby VFW Posts or veteran organizations who may already work with units in your area.
Getting Started
There’s no wrong time to begin. Whether a unit is deployed overseas or stationed locally, your support makes a difference. Start by completing an Adopt-A-Unit Application form (available on the VFW National website) and submitting it to the Military Assistance Program (MAP) Office.
Types of Activities
You are only limited by your imagination when it comes to supporting your adopted unit. Typical activities include:
- Deployment and Welcome-Home ceremonies

- Family Days and community picnics
- Holiday gatherings or care package drives
